    Propionibacterium acnes: an underestimated etiology in the pathogenesis of osteoarthritis?

    The Reading Expert Shoulder Course is a two day advanced shoulder course. All the delegates are experienced shoulder surgeons and “All are Faculty”.

    Day One will cover arthroscopic techniques for treatment of complex instability, arthroscopic bone block, arthroscopic Latarjet, and Biceps procedures. Comparison of different methods of rotator cuff repair, various approaches to manage the massive rotator cuff tear, Suprascapular nerve release and more.

    Day Two will cover advances and innovations in total shoulder replacement, especially reverse TSA and stemless rTSA.
    The course will involve lecture-based discussions but is primarily a cadaver lab course with ample opportunity to practice the techniques taught in the Expert Connect Centre.

    Accreditation - Accredited by the Royal College of Surgeons of England.

    Participant profile

    This course is an advanced shoulder course aimed at experienced shoulder surgeons who want to further discuss and develop advanced arthroscopic and arthroplasty skills. Ideal candidates are Shoulder Consultant in first 3-4 years of practice, and even more experienced Consultants.

Mr. Giuseppe Sforza MD, MCh (Orth)
Laureatosi con lode nel 1992 in Medicina e Chirurgia presso l'Università degli Studi di Bari acquisisce la specializzazione in Ortopedia e Traumatologia con lode presso la medesima università. Trascorre periodi di formazione presso il Danderyd Hospital ed il  Karolinska Institute a  Stoccolma ed al Southern California Orthopaedic Institute a  Los Angeles dove approfondisce le sue conoscenze nell’ambito della chirurgia della spalla sia artroscopica che aperta.

Dal 1999 al 2000 è fellow alla  Reading Shoulder Unit presso il Royal Berkshire Hospital sotto la supervisione di Stephen Copeland e Ofer Levy, dove acquisisce una vasta esperienza nella chirurgia della spalla e del gomito.

Successivamente ritorna in italia e viene assunto e viene nominato responsabile dell'unita' operativa semplice di chirurgia della spalla e del gomito presso l’ospedale Madonna delle Grazie di Matera.

Dal 2001 si reca annualmente alla Mayo Clinic presso il Dipartimento di chirurgia del gomito per perfezionare e acquisire nuove tecniche nella chirurgia del gomito grazie alla collaborazione con Shawn O'Driscoll and Bernard Morrey. Dall’ ottobre 2004 lavora come chirurgo della spalla e del gomito presso il Berkshire Indipendent Hospital. Nel 2005 ha lavorato come responsabile della chirurgia della spalla e del gomito presso il St. Peter and Ashford Hospitals NHS Trust. Dal 2007 al 2015 ha lavorato come responsabile della chirurgia della spalla e del gomito presso il Worchester NHS Trust. Lavora, inoltre, al Wellington Hospital e presso l'Highgate Hospital ed il Princess Grace Hospital a Londra, al Dunedin Hospital a Reading in Inghilterra ed e' consulente esterno presso l'ospedale Mater Dei di Bari e la Casa di Cura San Camillo a Taranto in Italia.

E’ membro della società italiana di chirurgia della spalla e del gomito (SICSeG) e della società italiana di artroscopia (SIA), nelle quali ha svolto attività di formazione ed ha fatto parte del consiglio direttivo, è membro della Società di Ortopedia e Traumatologia Italiana e della British Medical Association in UK. Ha organizzato meeting regionali, nazionali ed internazionali e svolge spesso il ruolo di relatore invitato in meeting nazionali ed internazionali sui temi della chirurgia della spalla e del gomito e dell'arto superiore. E’ membro della società europea ed inglese della chirurgia della spalla e del gomito. Ha pubblicato e relazionato in piu' di 200 lavori scientifici ed è autore di capitoli in alcuni libri di chirurgia della spalla.

Recentemente ha conseguito il Master in Chirurgia della Mano e del Polso presso l'Universita' degli studi di Milano.
